Whatever it is, your story is important to us….

  • The Stables Cafe

The Stables Cafe is a much loved community hub where customers can enjoy homecooked food much of which uses the organic produce from our community gardens.

We offer volunteering opportunities for our kitchen and front of house roles.

We are a registered Warm Space providing a warm welcome for the general public, our volunteers and participants to enjoy good food, social connection and support.

“Since starting helping in the stables cafe, I feel a bit more confident with people. Its a very friendly group. No question seems too small or stupid..

It’s like a little community in the Park, everyone helps everyone else. I feel a bit healthier because I get out and enjoy being here”

    Lorraine Hunt

  • Horticulture

Our Greenhouses site offers a range of horticulture activities and growing spaces all of which follow an organic/permaculture model.

Our volunteers are involved in growing crops for use in the cafe, perennials, herbs and fruit bushes for retail.

In partnership with Lancashire Adult Learning we provide a popular Horticulture course which progresses from entry level to a certificate.

“I like seeing all the wonderful faces and how people talk to each other respectfully.”

    Jack Hunter

“I enjoy the comeraderie and like being part of the horticultural team.“

  • Site Maintenance

Site maintenance is an important aspect of our day to day activities and helps to create a safe and well organised environment for our staff, volunteers and participants . We offer voluntary opportunities for experienced trades people to help with woodwork, site landscaping, building repairs and maintaining our horticultural beds and borders.

  • Bicycle upcycling

Our bicycle upcycling project started in 2011 with funding from LCC Access Funding. We were able to fund City and Guilds Bicycle Maintenance training for one of our long term volunteers in 2018.

We accept donnations from the local community of redundant bikes , upcycle them and ensure they are signed off for safe road use before offering them for sale to the general public.

Our volunteers also offer a bike repair service for all aspects of bike maintenance.

As a long standing partner, Go Velo work with us to provide Adult Bike skils and bike maintenance courses , all of which take place within our workshops and wider park.
